re: work
Having 4 years of serving & bartending experience behind my belt, I, at first felt a bit insulted by the fact that I was asked to be a bus boy, but the last 2 days have taught me that it's really not all that bad. Especially when you are working with some pretty cool people. The day goes by really fast and all the guests who come in for lunch are really happy... I attribute this to a couple of reasons: 1) they're on vacation 2) Banff is beautiful and peaceful 3) It's a 50's diner with mini jukeboxes at each table!!!! (-Mel, you would go crazy! Imagine Mel's Diner, but with your own personal jukebox! LOL) Anyhooter... Tomorrow I have an interview for the position of Night Audit at Brewster's Mountain Lodge, I'm not really keen on the idea of working from 11pm -> 7am, however I think that pros of this job might outweigh the cons, and hence I will give it my all.
Snowing !?!
Extra extra... read all about it! Snowflake lands on boy's nose this morning in Banff! Crazy eh... well it happened! The snowflake in question was one of many that was making it's way from the cloudy skies above at approximately 8:10am MNT. I must say, the sight of the years first, and may I add..EARLY, snowfall made me a bit sad, as it doesn't seem like it was really that long ago that we said goodbye to the white stuff. Where has our summer gone? The question I really should be asking myself is where was the summer in the first place? My last day of snowboarding this year was May 22, and we still had flurries well into the start of June. July was warm (20-27 degrees), August was cool, September was rainy... & now snowy too. I'm not sure If I can endure more than 6 more months out here.
Back from the Dead
WOW... I actually forgot that this blog existed until I followed a series of links that lead me to Jessica's blog, and saw that she has mine linked. Anyhooter, to make an incredibly long story short, for the past 7 months I had been living and working at the Fairmont Banff Springs. Had also been taking full advantage of the many opportunities that the Canadian Rockies have to offer. Everything was great up until a 2 weeks ago, when they (the Springs) abruptly canned my ass and gave me notice to move out of staff accom. Ha ha!!
After 2 weeks of job hunting... Yesterday, I reluctantly entered into this sketchy 50's diner and asked to speak to the manager about a possible job. I had come expecting not to hear any good words, as the past two weeks of searching had turned up nothing at all.. However to my very pleasant surprise, I was hired on the spot as a bus boy. (I know, laugh it up!!!) But in the end, it'll at least bring in some minimal $$ while I continue my hunt for a better paying, more glamorous job... I don?t think I can stress "more glam" enough !!!
As for the housing frontier... that is a wall that awaits to be scaled. There are many adds in the local paper, however most places are advertising for 2 bedroom apts.. and the rent is well above my $1.85/day allowance. I'll update you all again soon on how I've either; 1) continued to sleep on random park benches, or 2) whored myself to the landlord for a very reduced rent and access to his/her Mercedes !
All for now :)
